The long awaited Kukkiwon seminar organized by Swiss Taekwondo took place on the weekend of October 26 and 27 in Berne. Master Jaeung Shin, Kukkiwon Dispatched Instructor in Latvia, started the impressive group of over 50 distinguished Swiss Masters, instructors and athletes with a series of warm up exercises and games before going over basic techniques. He quickly won the crowd’s hearts not just with his humor and engaging teaching style but also with his eye for details and precision. Everyone, even long-time trainers and competitors, acquired new knowledge and had fun following Master Shin’s instructions.

After a day full of physical exercise and a presentation about Kukkiwon Switzerland from our president Jean-Marie Ayer, the first part of the two day series concluded with refreshments and lots of discussions and catching up between colleagues.

The second day brought yet again a valuable practical workshop which included some Kyorugi training and instructions for children’s classes. Master Shin wrapped up the seminar with a briefing about judging Dan tests. He stressed the importance of considering the dignity and enthusiasm of the athlete during the evaluation, not just technique. His clarity and expertise impressed everyone in the room and one thing is certain: we have not seen the last of Master Shin in Switzerland.
