5 Swiss Cadets heading to the Kyorugi European Championship in Bucharest
Bucharest calling: five Swiss cadets have their tickets
Two months before the gong, the Swiss team for the Cadet European Championships is taking shape.
The points are counted, the guidelines have been applied, and the list is out. Five Swiss athletes cleared the 45-point line for the Cadet European Championships in Bucharest (November 26-28):
- Melin Öztekin
- Hosseyn Hafaz
- Helena Stefanovic
- Sara Lukic
- Mohamed Zuberi
The points weren't handed out. They were earned one tournament at a time. The KSD has asked the Executive Board to confirm the selection.
Melin's night
Melin's ticket came from the Multi European Games 2026, and she earned it the hard way. She fought in the -51 kg category, in a field of 60. The fights ran past midnight. Her semifinal ended shortly before midnight, and the final started right after it, with no break in between.
In the final she led, and she lost 14:13 in the last seconds. It was silver, and a very strong result for a very long night. She then added gold at the German Open and gold at the Albania Open.
Albania Open: the last qualifier
The Albania Open are still on-going this weekend was the last selected qualification tournament. Melin won gold there, and Mohamed Zuberi added silver. Another cadet also earned metal on Friday in Albania: Oleksii Korniev won Gold - congratulations!
