Swiss Taekwondo at the Friedrichshafen Winter Camp
At the beginning of the year, Swiss Taekwondo athletes took part in the International Winter Camp in Friedrichshafen, one of Europe’s most established multi-day Taekwondo training events. Over six intensive training days, a total of 160 athletes trained together, exchanging experience and preparing for the upcoming competition season.
With 31 athletes, Switzerland was represented by a strong delegation, underlining the federation’s ongoing commitment to international training environments and long-term athlete development.
Throughout the camp, the Swiss athletes were accompanied by Peer Steinkellner, Swiss Kyorugi National Trainer, who was present for the full duration of the event. While the on-mat training sessions were led by the camp’s international coaching staff, Steinkellner closely supported the Swiss team through observation, performance review, and individual feedback, ensuring continuity with Swiss Taekwondo’s national performance framework.
“Training camps like Friedrichshafen offer an excellent opportunity to observe our athletes in an international environment, reflect on their development, and take valuable impulses back into our daily training work,” said Peer Steinkellner, Swiss Kyorugi National Trainer.
The camp also attracted several high-level visitors, highlighting its international relevance. Swiss Taekwondo President Jean-Marie Ayer visited the camp to meet athletes and coaches, demonstrating the federation’s close connection to its national team athletes. In addition, representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) were present, underlining the event’s broader significance within the global Taekwondo community.
Beyond the intensive training sessions, the Friedrichshafen Winter Camp once again proved to be a valuable platform for exchange, networking, and international experience. For many Swiss athletes, it marked an important early-season reference point and a strong foundation for the year ahead.
Swiss Taekwondo thanks all athletes, coaches, and organisers involved for their commitment and contribution to a successful training camp.
