Swiss Passion, Global Spotlight
Taekwondo made its Olympic debut as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Games — a proud moment for the martial art’s homeland and a global step forward for its recognition. Thanks to its growing international popularity and dynamic appeal, Taekwondo officially became a full medal sport at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Today, Olympic Taekwondo (Kyorugi) is a fast-paced, strategic, and high-impact discipline that combines precision, speed, and spirit. Rooted in centuries of martial tradition and refined through modern sport science, it represents the perfect blend of heritage and high performance.
For athletes around the world — and in Switzerland — the Olympics represent the highest level of achievement. Competing under the flag of Swiss Taekwondo, our athletes train and qualify through national and international pathways governed by World Taekwondo (WT) and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The road to the Olympics is long and challenging. It requires not only exceptional skill, but years of discipline, commitment, and national support. Swiss Taekwondo works to identify and nurture talent through structured development, elite coaching, and international exposure.
Every Olympic cycle inspires a new generation of athletes — and reminds us all why Taekwondo is more than a sport: it’s a lifelong journey of growth, excellence, and perseverance.
