The 2nd Swiss Open Kyorugi returns to St. Gallen on September 4–6, 2026, and this year the event is bigger and bolder than ever. Sanctioned by World Taekwondo and organized by Swiss Taekwondo in collaboration with the European Taekwondo Union (ETU), the tournament spans three full days at the Athletik Zentrum St. Gallen. The event features two internationally ranked competitions: the Swiss Open E2 for Cadets and Juniors (September 4–5), offering ETU Ranking points, and the Swiss Open G1 for Seniors (September 6), where athletes compete for World Taekwondo Ranking points. With the DAEDO GEN-3 PSS system and international referees, the competition standard matches the highest levels in the sport.
Introducing the Swiss Challenge - A First in Swiss Taekwondo
What makes this edition truly unique is the launch of the Swiss Challenge, a pilot project developed in close collaboration with the ETU. The concept is simple but powerful: any athlete eliminated in their first fight at the Swiss Open is automatically entered into a separate single-elimination tournament at no extra cost. One registration, two chances to compete.
The idea behind the Swiss Challenge is to maximize sparring time and make the trip to St. Gallen worthwhile for every athlete. Especially for younger competitors and those building international experience, an extra fight can make all the difference. The Swiss Challenge awards its own medals and certificates, though no ranking points are distributed.
Swiss Open Para Taekwondo
For this edition, we are proud to introduce Para Taekwondo at the Swiss Taekwondo Open for the very first time. This initiative reflects our strong commitment to inclusivity and to the continued growth of Taekwondo as a sport open to all. We are delighted to welcome competitors of the Para Taekwondo division to St. Gallen and to include this category in the Swiss Taekwondo Open program.
The competition will follow the traditional single-elimination format, which remains the standard structure for this division. This system guarantees a clear and fair competition environment and offers the opportunity to demonstrate skill, determination, and competitive spirit on an international stage.
We look forward to welcoming you to St. Gallen and to sharing this exciting new step for the Swiss Taekwondo Open.
Who Can Compete?
The Swiss Open is open to Cadets (born 2012–2014), Juniors (born 2009–2011), and Seniors (born 2009 and earlier). Athletes born in 2009 may compete as either Junior or Senior but not both. All athletes and coaches must hold a valid 2026 WT Global License. Seeding for Cadets and Juniors follows the August 2026 ETU ranking list; Seniors are seeded according to the August 2026 WT ranking list.
