Brave Performance by Swiss Taekwondo in Skopje
From July 20 to 26, the North Macedonian capital Skopje was all about the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). The strongest young talents from across Europe competed in 15 sports - including Taekwondo Kyorugi.
For Swiss Taekwondo, it was an intense, educational, and challenging tournament held under exceptional conditions: temperatures in the competition hall reached up to 40°C at times.
Switzerland was represented by five dedicated athletes: Davud Güllü (15), Sophie Lewis (15), Sofija Zivkovic (15), Pauline Luyet (17), and Dionis Memeti (17). They were coached by national team trainer Peer Steinkellner and Bashkim Krasniqi.
Pauline Luyet and Sofija Zivkovic each secured one victory and gained valuable experience. For the rest of the team, the tournament was an important benchmark in international competition.
Although major sporting success remained out of reach this time, our athletes are returning home with many key takeaways. The EYOF was a significant milestone in their athletic development and a strong motivation to keep working hard and improving at the highest level.
Swiss Taekwondo congratulates the entire team on their brave performance and thanks them for their dedication and team spirit in Skopje.
