Kukkiwon Seminar with Grandmaster Shin - A Weekend of Inspiration and Learning in Berne
Swiss Taekwondo was honoured to welcome Grandmaster Shin, Kukkiwon Dispatch Master based in Riga, Latvia, for a two-day seminar in Berne. Following his legendary visit last year, expectations were high - and Grandmaster Shin once again exceeded them.
With his signature blend of humour, respect, and deep technical knowledge, Grandmaster Shin led engaging sessions that captivated participants of all ages. His clear and concise demonstrations, paired with his intuitive teaching style, made the content easily accessible - even for those with limited English skills.
Training for All Ages and Levels
Each morning, the focus was on children under 12, who received dynamic instruction in Poomsae and Kyorugi basics. Coaches and instructors observed and drew inspiration from Grandmaster Shin’s playful yet structured methods of teaching young students. His ability to break down complex movements into manageable steps while keeping the atmosphere fun and motivating was a true highlight. Two hours flew by as the young participants trained with focus and joy.
In the afternoons, it was time for juniors and adults to take the mats. On Saturday, Grandmaster Shin led Poomsae sessions with a sharp eye for detail and technical precision. Sunday brought powerful Kyorugi training, including kicking drills and movement exercises that challenged even the most experienced practitioners - all delivered in a motivating and upbeat environment.
Spotlight on Freestyle Poomsae
Saturday’s program also included a special Freestyle Poomsae presentation by Kenneth Jannasch, who has played a key role in developing Swiss Taekwondo’s freestyle program over the past year. Participants were impressed by the athletes’ progress and had the opportunity to engage directly with Kenneth in a lively Q&A session.
A Community Gathering
The day concluded with a friendly reception, where participants enjoyed food, drinks, and the chance to network and reconnect with colleagues from across the country. Everyone left the seminar with new ideas, fresh motivation, and practical tools to bring back to their dojangs. Without a doubt, this event was a great success - and we look forward to welcoming Grandmaster Shin back to Switzerland very soon.
