Poomsae
07.07.2026
On Saturday 4 July, Swiss Taekwondo hosted a full day of poomsae training with Maria Gilgen - Switzerland's national poomsae trainer, award-winning coach with extensive international competition experience, and certified international poomsae referee.
The morning started where it should: the basics. Stances, transitions, the kind of precise movement that looks simple, which is of course exactly what makes it so difficult. From there, the group worked through many of the Taegeuk Poomsae before moving into the Dan forms in the afternoon. Athletes and coaches came from dojangs across Switzerland, and the day was as much about new connections as it was about new technique and international competition expertise.
Maria's coaching was clear, engaging and entertaining. From the younger athletes to the more experienced ones, everyone found something to take home and everyone went home with a list. A long one.
A big thank you to Maria for giving a full day of her time and knowledge. We'd love to make this a regular date on the Swiss taekwondo calendar: the room was full for a reason!
