The 2026 international season began for the Swiss Taekwondo team with two consecutive competitions in Innsbruck. The Golden Roof Open, starting on 31 January, offered athletes their first opportunity of the year to step into the game, followed one week later by the Austrian Open 2026 on 7–8 February.
The Golden Roof Open served primarily as an early-season benchmark. Swiss athletes used the tournament to regain competitive rhythm, test tactical approaches, and evaluate their preparation under real competition conditions.
The Austrian Open brought more experience with the KPNP system under the new WT rules. Leyla secured silver after a strong run through the bracket, while Hosseyn and Davud each earned bronze against tough international opposition.
Beyond the podium finishes, the two tournaments together provided extensive match experience and strengthened team cohesion at the start of the season.
“These early competitions are not only about results. They allow us to assess our preparation, identify areas for improvement, and build confidence as a team. The athletes showed commitment and a strong mindset, which is exactly what we want to see at this stage of the season.”
— Peer Steinkellner, Swiss National Team Coach
With the season now underway, the Swiss delegation leaves Innsbruck with valuable insights and a solid foundation for the upcoming international calendar.
