Ilir Soulimani Represents Switzerland at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi
The World Taekwondo Championships are currently taking place in Wuxi, China (24–30 October 2025). Switzerland’s Ilir Soulimani represented Switzerland in the Men's heavyweight category with pride and determination and, although he fought hard, his journey in Wuxi ended sooner than hoped. Before the tournament Ilir Soulimani spoke about his pride in representing Switzerland:
“I am very proud to represent Switzerland at this World Championship in Wuxi. It is an honour to wear our colours on the international stage and to test my work and determination against the world’s best athletes. This tournament is the result of many years of effort and sacrifice, but also another step towards my most ambitious goals. I will give everything to make Switzerland shine and make those who support me proud.”
In Wuxi, Ilir showed commitment and heart in every moment on the mat. He faced a strong opposition with Yoikel Goicochea from Cuba and despite a determined performance, was eliminated earlier than we all hoped. While the result is not the outcome we wanted, Ilir’s courage, discipline and sportsmanship were clear for all to see. Reports from the opening days highlight fierce competition across weight categories and several headline results as the championships progress.
Competing at a world championship is itself a major achievement. Every bout at this level offers invaluable lessons: tactical insights, experience under pressure, and the chance to measure one’s preparation against the very best. Ilir will bring these lessons home, stronger and more motivated for the next steps in his career.
We congratulate Ilir for his relentless work ethic and for proudly wearing Swiss colours on the world stage. The entire Swiss Taekwondo community stands behind him, proud of his effort and confident in his future progress. Follow the ongoing results and coverage from Wuxi on the official
